Mark it's funny you ask since you were talking about woodfriff keys and flywheels.   Well I thought I had my flywheel tight.  It came lose and the woodriff took a good chunk out of the flywheel and a little on the crank.  I should have been more patient and waited for the new carb.  Now i might have to replace the crank and definitely the flywheel.  Live and learn.

we were talkin about what it is that a woodruff key does.  Now its sounds like its harder than the crank or flywheel.  I've heard them called shear keys as well. "I think" the key lines it all up, but the friction of the mating  surface area of the cone shaped surface between the crankshaft and flywheel is what holds it in place. of course, one needs to tighten the nut enough to attain this friction coefficient.
the clutch end has a key, how come those never come'a loose?

The clutch end is typically left untouched except by fools like me who wanna make them go faster.  The flywheel side has the timing where most tinkering is done.  We'll have to make a vedict on the crank this Sunday.

I'll bring Jill's Westlake to hopefully shed some light for yah.

Same shit happened to Annie's puch.  Flywheel works itself loose over and over again.  She's on her third sheared woodruff key.  This last one fucked the flywheel for good, but luckily her new crank is alright.

I think that the woodruff key is there to break if things go badly.  But if the flywheel isn't tight enough, it's going to ride over the woodruff key and fuck itself up, if not the crank too.

Malaguti doesn't use a woodruff key in his flywheel.  He just lines it up, and uses an impact drill to tighten it.  That's my plan for Annie's puch.

And the HPI ignition I just got doesn't use a woodruff on it's flywheel either.  So I think the proper (insanely high) torque specs are what we need.

Also, Rick messed up his flywheel and crank doing the same thing.  He used quiksteel to fix it.  So we can probably do that instead of replacing your crank if you want.

Mike, Those are the words I wanted to hear.  I was thinking I was going to have to start all over again.  The flywheel on the other hand is trashed.  So, if anyone would happen to have an extra one around that they might want to sell, I am in need.
