Sachs tune-up!
« on: July 27, 2010, 11:55:38 AM »

I have a 1981 Sachs Prima with a 505-D engine. I'm looking to supe/soup/supe/soop it up.

Anyone got any ideas of new parts I should buy/ old parts they'd like to sell that can help me go faster? 30 mph is pretty good but most people in Albany NY where I live hit closer to 40.

Thanks!

Albany?  Shit, that's my old stompin grounds.  I grew up in Green Island and Latham.

I can imagine you're gonna want to ride quicker there.  A performance exhaust is a solid first step to get you to 33-35mph range.  BUT no one seems to sell a bolt up exhaust for a Sachs.  If you know how to weld, or know someone who can, or want to pay like $20-30 at a shop to do it, you can get any pipe you like from here and make it work: http://www.treatland.tv/SearchResults.asp?Search=expansion+chamber  Then upjet your carb.  Or get a bigger carb and jet it right.

I don't know much about sachs specifics though, so someone else might chime in and be more helpful.

Dang so there's no way for me to just buy an exhaust?

Can I have a mechanic mess with my old exhaust? Its pretty big as it is.

No you can't have it for 3 broken 504A's haha

And whats I.R.E.? I want to join the bandwagon.

You can just buy an exhaust, although getting it to fit might require some welding or other fabrication skills. I don't know diddly squat about Sachs though, so it's best to wait and see if someone else can recommend a pipe that would minimize the amount of work you need to do to it.
