E50 transmission over pressure hole?
« on: July 23, 2010, 01:34:06 PM »

So my kitted bike rips. It goes as fast as I feel comfortable going on a moped. It's a hoot.

But I leave oil spots everywhere. The ATF is coming out the hole on the top of the case and dripping down around the engine and down the kickstand.

I've been using 170mL of el cheapo store brand ATF. After one change I'd lost about 70mL.

So what can I do? I don't really want to block the hole. Is there something I can do the next time I split that case that will help to mitigate drippiness?

In the mean, time is there a better ATF choice *ducking to avoid potential controversy*? Is 170mL appropriate? What are yall doing about this or is it just a fact of life?
Thanks.

well thats roughly 6 oz and that's what the e50 calls for so i have no idea why it would be leaking out the top unless you over filled it, but you didnt :/ yea ghetto type f is my fav but im sure 30 people will tune in with their fav types of fluid.

You'll probably want to get a brass crush washer, and a small bolt to seal it off. I had the same problem with my FA50, sealing it didn't rob performance, it just made the ATF hotter, which in my case was a good thing, meaning the chain moved easier, which improved  performance, or at least it did on my FA.

My gila sprays out that spot.  Just does.  We're turning these engines at like double and triple the RPMs they were designed for.  Shit happens.  I look at it as a sweet autolube feature for my chain and left ankle.

Yea I guess I figured it was an issue of these super high RPMS. I've been carrying a piece of cardboard to catch my mess when I park. I shall continue to do so.

Oh, mine doesn't drip AT ALL when it's parked.  And only sprays a fine mist when riding...  There's gotta be something different you're doing.  I've only ever had it spew  like that when I way overfilled.

It only drips at first after I park. It seems though the kickstand clamp acts as a resevior for the spilt oil. It just kinda builds up there as I ride.

Yeah the faster you go, the more the oil heats up, gets larger in volume, ...it eventually evens out...to a degree. But sometimes on super fast blasts, you may see some tranny fluid....

I never had this issue either, and my bike has always run pretty, uh, fast. I also overfill it. Maybe you're missing the baffle passages on the inside of the case? You could be super jank and just shove a shop rag in between the frame and the top of the case, catch all the nasties before they get out.

get a grease nipple, drill out the check valve and screw it into the vent. attach a small diameter tube to that and run it down the side of the engine some where. problem solved.
