Topic: What am I missing? (Read 811 times)

Ok so I got this JAWA,

Cleaned Carb (3 times)
Replaced Base, Intake and Exhaust gaskets
Polished Internal Rotor
Cleaned all coils
Tested thrysistor (It's Good Yo!)
Tested Kill Switch (It's good too!)
Changed the case oil twice
New Plug (B7HS)

It has compression, spark and fuel flow but, no magic smoke!

I pulled the baffle to see if the exhaust was plugged up then got a nice pool of chocolate syrup on the garage floor. I am presently leaning twoards a leaky case gasket/crank seal.

Any one got a magic trick up thier sleeves?

Thinking now the issue may be in the carb. I had been trying to get it going with the funky bing it came with. Cleaned the carb again, burnt the pipe out, fresh gas and after a another session of trying to start it, ended up with gas oil mix in the pipe again. Think this thing may be dumping too much gas.

I am going to make a spacer and put an SHA on it with a puch ZA/E-50 intake tomorrow and try again.

SO I tried it again this morning putting most of the sage advice I've received to use, got a sputter of life then I flooded it again.

I'm off to Westlakes/Oriely's for some intake and carb switching supplies and a hotter plug (Thanks Tom)!

The Jawa needs the air filter resistance to atomize the fuel, the opening is so small it's crucial. the other 90% of the issue is the petcock, if the rubber disc in there hasn't gone to hell you can clean it all up with a toothpick. In your case it sounds like your float might be sunk or mis adjusted though.

When I pulled it a little while ago the float in that stock carb had more gas in it than the bowl did.....

I GOT IT TO FIRE! (Twice)
I can't call it running yet cause it's REALLLLLLLY tempermental still. 2 Hour wrench session and one short running moment (About 10 seconds) then another 30 minutes of pedaling' and another 5 seconds or so of run time.

I ended up switching to a 14/14 SHA coupled with a ZA-50 14mm intake. I'm pretty sure that the jet size is way huge (Jetted at 72) and I'm still flooding it. Once it cools back off I'll go back and try some different jet sizes and see what I can do get a little more consistent and longer run times....

I've ALWAYS wanted to port one of those cylinders. I also hear there's a weird Jawa cylinder on some bikes with crazy Soviet Union two-stroke tech. I want to mess with one of those too. Probably made from gypsies.

I've read the wiki on porting the jawa, sounds like it's a blanks canvas in there....

What kinda frames do you have? And motors? Any of the case-inducted ones? Is that the M56?

Edit: I've got an incomplete Vespa Ciao with a Polini I could trade to either of you for a complete Bat. Complete rolling chassis (Maxi forks and front wheel), really clean tank, new stock SHA, built and ready to go case matched motor with the 43mm Polini. It's missing the front clutch/pulley assembly, and electronics. Interested?

I have a VA frame. It's ugly/dirty and missing stuff. No gas tank, shocks, cables, wires etc. No motor.
I have some M48s too but I kinda wanna hold onto them. I have tentative fast bat plans. need to find a machinist that could help me mill the jug... And I'm sure I will screw a crack case up in the process too.

So I got this thing to run FINALY! There were two case bolt under the clutch cover that were backed almost all the way out. Its running rough but I rode this biatch. Now I can finish the russian bat!
