STOLEN PED: Yellow Puch Maxi
« on: June 09, 2010, 05:38:23 PM »

Sam/STR said that someone took his yellow Puch Maxi from his backyard. They left the Yankee Peddler though.

He lives on Blow near field in the Carondelet Park area.

Keep your eyes peeled!

Bumping this up--yellow maxi that matches the description of Sam's bike was JUST spotted near Mark's house.  From Tom, "Stolen Yellow Maxi last seen at 2815 Texas. Savage tires, grey sidecovers. Guy riding it was a young black kid, 5'10" 150#s, no shirt, black baseball cap"    savage = savas, me thinks

keep an eye out in this area, or help look if you can!

Wish I could help on the hunt.  It does have Savas, it's the only aftermarket shit on that ped.  I know that it has the air pump in the sidecover as well, that is unless Sam took it out.  The Savas are the key though.  Good Luck!

Nate, if you go over there and it's the one, tell they guy that the price was a little more than you expected, and you need to borrow another 40 bucks off your buddy.

Call one of the ather IRE folks and ask him to borrow the money and for him to bring it over.  That would be the signal for Sam and a group of guys (and maybe a cop that you guys know) to show up there and identify the ped.

Mark, is there some way you can check CL for recent sales (like you can on eBay) to see if that guy is lying about buying it off of Craig's List?

I can't believe the cops let him keep it . . . Hell, he will hide it somewhere and say it was stolen out of his yard - then sell it out of town later after the heat is off!!!

I sure hope that Sam has something with the serial number of the ped on it.

For the future everybody ought to get a bill of sale from the seller (or somebody . . . anybody!) so they can use it to identify their ped if it is stolen.  A bill of sale form can be easily found on-line or at an office supply store . . . or I guess you can print out this one:

BILL OF SALE

Sam, claims he's  checked CL, every day since its went missing...
I think everyone should stop what they're doin right now, and go write down the serial number on all their bikes,,, and continue with a nicely crafted bill of sale.. signed and dated by a trusted friend....
Had Sam been able to prove equivocally that , the near perfect, (only yellow puch I've ever seen in St. LOuis) was absolutely his, with a copy of the police report,, with the serial number on it,,,
we're it mine , I'd rather smash it with a sledge hammer, then to let a lying, thieving, son of crack whore, welfare cheatin, gun totin, diseased, presumed   innocent, until proven guilty, resident of the 2800 block of texas enjoy one more second perched on it...

You can contact craigslist and tell them the situation they will help you look into it. The detective can also do the same thing and very well may be doing it as we speak. allways get a bill of sale just incase you buy astolen moped as well. A moped can be stolen 5 owners ago. The person who has it when its found losses his money.

do a ton of witness's count for anything. I don't know the bike from anybody else's, but I'll be a witness. I would think that about ten or twenty people crying foul to this cop might change his mind. The whole deal stinks so bad.

Iy seams like thegreatre is a moped stolen every week, there are a lot of diff locks that work. There are also alarm locks that if you even touch yhem will start screaming at 140 dB's enough to make anyone start panicing and takeoff running.

You could be fancy and get it notarized.

Seems to me having a bill of sale with the VIN/year/model and such would be a lot more proof than just saying "Hey, that's mine."

Yep, I've had things notarized I just typed up.  Not an official form or anything, just a deposition for a court case a friend was in.  Those people are just excited to use their expensive stamp thing.

All the Notary does is witness the signing of the document . . . they don't care what's in it.  They are supposed to either know the person who signs the paper, or they vouch for the signer's identity by checking their driver's license or other picture ID.

The purpose of the notarization is to have an independent government sanctioned witness (with no interest in the subject matter or persons involved in the transaction) to verify that the document was signed in the Notery's presence by the actual person named on it, and thus is not a forgery.

The object of a notory is to whitness by sigiture and date. A notory does require a date. But who says it needs to be notorized? A bill of sale of any kind would be great if you have the vin. has anyone tried to call craigs list? That would be the primary salution.

Hey Mark
This is Sam with the stolen moped. The cops are telling me I need to have a serial number for the moped before they can recover it for me. I was told at some point that I probably bought it from a guy named Cole so I was wondering if you have any contact information for him so that I can ask him if he has the number. Please let me know
thanks
-Sam

What's the address that the moped is (was) being kept at?   where is the serial number located on a Yellow Puch?

Hey, Bright, nobody ever said that a Bill of Sale needs to be notarized.  But, having it notarized adds an element of authenticity to it because it shows that the person named as the seller did in fact sign it in the presence of the Notary.  It greatly increases the credibility of the document which makes it much more believable and acceptable to the bureaucrats at DMV.  Smiff

This is a wake-up call, folks.  What happened to Sam can happen to anybody who gets stolen anything with a serial number on it.  If you don't know your serial number, the theif gets away scott free with your property.  Go get your moped serial numbers NOW!  Write 'em down and keep copies IN MORE THAN ONE PLACE so you will always be able to find them.

Then, as soon as you can, get a bill of sale for each ped, preferably from whoever you bought it from.  If you can't find that person, then sell peds to each other with bills of sale.

Put the original bill of sale in a safe place at home and put photocopies of it in places like your tool box, up under the seat or tank on the ped (where it won't be easily found - put it in a baggie to protect it), and in the glove compartment of your car, etc.  That way you can always easily get to a copy and pull it out when needed.

Look my point was you cant get a bill of sale notoized now and ecspect it to be valid cuz it will have the date that it was notorized. You need to prove you bought it before it was stolen not after it was stolen so no a newly notorized bill of sale would would not add an element of authenticity to it because yje date would be post theift. OMG, I haven't a clue who ever suggested getting a Bill of Sale after the fact, sure as Hell wouldn't have been me!!  That would certainly be useless, but the name Smiff is at the end of your message, so I'm wondering what it is there for.

All I said is for everyone out there to get a bill of sale for their peds, so that if they are stolen at some future time they will have some evidence that they owned the ped.  In Sam's case I pointed out that since he apparently has no evidence, with a VIN# on it, to show that he owns the moped, the cops will allow the thief to keep it.

The old adage "possession is three quarters of the law" means that very thing . . . if there is no available evidence to show who owns disputed property, the law will assume the owner is the person in possession.  Thief has possession of ped - Sam has no evidence it's his - thief gets to keep ped.  Simple as that.
