ok, how about a 250cc Kawasaki mill?
Chuck's bro says he has one in japan, but that's to far away.
that 250 makes between 30-40 hp, this one's a slug 14 hp!

You want a Kaw build a Kaw. 14 hp is plenty and the Puch 250 is rare, nobody says WOW a Kawasaki.

There's instructions on how to set the timing on the Motor West site.

Did I miss pictures of the whole thing?

I was just poking at the moped community, I have never seen anything like this. the timing "is " probably fine.
and yes the pictures are here somewhere, but Chuck told me YOU worked on this very bike at some point.
so you should know what it looks like, right?

ED: this engine is a time bomb, they de-tuned this piece of shit on purpose.
the 175 has 11.5 to 1 compression and makes 16 hp.
this thing has 6.5 to 1, its junk!
14 hp x 300 lbs = turd
it's no wonder you cant get parts, or info on these things. nobody wants one!
puch made like 6 motorcycles, in that era. Honda made over 200.

Nope, I never worked on that bike.  I still have my four Twingles and have yet to sell one.  She just asked me about it before purchasing and was going to send a picture but I never got one.  So any jankiness on that bike can not be attributed to me!  Square tank or round?

The Germans of the time considered the U.S. market a third world in its gasoline quality and so gave us the low compression pistons. My 72 Mercedes has 7:1 compression ratio. It means the engine outlasts the frame.

so. . .can I get German pistons and slap em in there? or am I milling down the jug!

Bry. this thing isn't "janki" it just needs the paint and chrome cleaned up (Ok it needs a paint job, and most of the chrome is missing)

Is Chuck still on the Hobbit? Aren't you the one that always said it's impossible to make Hobbits go faster than 45?

yes, but you have to understand how a variator works to "get it".

Oh, yeah, you're right. I wouldn't understand variators. I mean, why have three, segmented "speeds", when your bike could just be at the optimal rpm range all the time? I must've had it all wrong.

In any case, the number of "speeds" you might be able to invent doesn't change the final drive ratio at full variation, which was your reasoning for the Hobbit "speed cap".

OK what I mean is how THIS variator works, and not everybodyelse's

it's basically, low range, straight to hi range, and then when hi range tops out THEN the belt flops up onto the outer ridge of the front pulley. this is the "theoretical third" gear I was referring to.

if you follow this thing in a car for a few hundred miles you can really get it in your head that this thing actually has "gears"

Matt, what Justin is saying is that if your variator was working smoothly, your bike would have the same exact performance as it does now, but not feel like it has "gears". because at the end of the day, it's still just a weight on a ramp acting upon RPM. Not saying there's anything wrong with that variator because it's obviously working, but the weights hanging up right before the notched part is what's causing your "gear" feeling. Same thing goes for the drive ratio, if it "shifts" into third
or it gets there smoothly without you feeling it, the drive ratio is still the same = Belt is on top of the vario, and bottom of the drive pulley.

No shit, well I kept it.

I'm gonna keep it for my wall of shame!

that thing probably sat in there for 50,000 miles.
