Anyone wanna come ride in Lawrence tomorrow?
« on: May 10, 2009, 09:29:45 PM »

I don't foresee any of you being able to do this, but I thought I'd put it out there. One of the guys from Topeka is coming to Lawrence tomorrow and wants to ride. Do any of you want to join in? More people = more fun. I would have tried to get him (and me) out to KC on Tuesday, but I've got a final that night :( I dunno what time we're riding tomorrow, but if any of you are interested in coming over here to ride and you have a time preference, shout out.

Hmm. If there were a loaner 'ped to be had, I'd be all over it.. But the Maxi will be in pieces starting tomorrow, and even if it weren't, I'd really have no way of getting it out there.

Bummer.

HEY though, if you had a fix-it and hang planned, I'd be out there in a heartbeat.. It's case/port matching time. I could totally fit just a motor in the Miata. aaaand I hear you have a dremel.

Let me know.

Well, you could ride the Tomos, but... it's the Tomos. It works, and it doesn't work horribly, but it also doesn't work particularly wonderfully either. I could try changing the transmission fluid for some other type to see if that helps, but I'm not gonna hold my breath on that one. If you want to come and ride the jerky, somewhat-slow, still untuned and air-leaky Tomos which could possibly blow up and will likely crap out at some point during the ride, you're welcome to do that though. Who knows, maybe it would like you better than it likes me.

And yes, I do have a dremel, but I wore down the only good port-matching type bit I had for it. I don't foresee myself needing the dremel within the next week or two -- you can borrow it if you want, but you'll have to get yourself a bit to use.

Oh, right, and I've somehow managed to lose the gas cap on the Tomos, so right now it's got a piece of aluminum foil taped over the hole. It works ... about as well as the rest of the moped.

Kevin, wait, what? You're actually getting rid of something? Which ones?

Hmm. Well, you did say it needed to be ridden, just to make sure it's not burning fluid.. :D I'd be cool riding it if the offer stands. I'll just bring my tools like always.. If anything, I've got legs, I can pedal. I promise not to crash the thing.

It's got an SHA on it, yeah? If so, I've got about a billion jets from 60something-96.. I'll bring them all, AND the mystery goo; you can have whichever combination of the two solves your air problems. btw, I've got a Techno Circuit that will fit right on that A3 that might solve your speed problems.. It's a little beat up (there's a story time in the works explaining that one, remind me), and it won't fit on any of my bikes, so you could probably just have it in exchange for some cheese and gummy bears or something.

It'd be fully, completely awesome if I could use your Dremel. I'd feel bad borrowing it though, I'll just bring the motor and do it there or something. I was planning on just buying a couple bits anyhow; I'd never use someone else's bit.. They break too often/wear out too quickly to not just buy my own and save the heartache.

Giving the Cimatti to my dad, possibly selling the ciao to declan, and trying to sell the foxi to a dude who works at ace..his buddy has an express. I'm getting down to just the 1 fast maxi, the 2 faced puch, possibly the swinger..if I actually work on it, then lots of vespas, and of course my pride and joy, the Robins. Ohh the FA50 will be leaving my garage too, running or not, its got to go. Besides some super awsome custom rad puchs, italian peds will resdide in my shed.

Justin: Well, come ride the Tomos then. Don't say I didn't warn you though. Yes, it has an SHA on it -- the SHA from hell, to be more specific. I put a Bullet exhaust on it, which at this point probably has only about 100 miles on it (although from all the transmission fluid I burned, I bet it seems like it has more). And if you think that pedaling a Puch is worthless, wait till you try pedaling the Tomos.

And seriously, just borrow the Dremel. I have 3 finals to study for tomorrow -- that means I've got limited moped time. If people are coming out here to ride, I wanna spend my time riding, not fixing stuff (ha! like that ever happens). You can feel bad about borrowing it if you stop coming to rides and answering e-mails and I never get it back.

Are you free all day, or do you have stuff to do? We don't have a time for any of this, other than "not early in the morning."

Kevin: You've told the Express dude and the potential Foxi dude that they should come ride, yes? Also, do you know which # cylinder is on that fast Maxi?

I won't be riding any time soon, got to get my flywheel off, and I don't have a puller.
yet.

Rear wheel is off and new bearings are hard to find, I don't care what people say snowflake mags don't take 29mm bearings.

Not to mention the birthday party for my kid I will be attending.

how much for the suzuki?

Ed, if you study, you should reward yourself for good behavior. A reward would be taking a study break (which will improve concentration later) by riding your moped. If you positively reinforce your good behavior with an appropriate reward, you will be more likely in the future to continue performing the action that you rewarded. So basically, by coming here to ride your moped, you will be improving your study habits and will study more effectively when you get home. You want to do well on those tests, don't you? :)

Kevin, you'd have to take the head off and look at the number. I'm not gonna be all "Take it apart!!" on you because if I had a moped like that, I wouldn't touch it until it blew up on me, but if you do ever happen to take the head off for any reason, tell me what number it is. I would have less of an inferiority complex if I knew yours was a different # than mine.

Matt, do you wanna borrow my puller? I could drop it by your place on my way out of town on Thursday morning if that isn't too late to be useful.

I might sell the suzuki off to one of scotts buddies. He's taking an engine class at JCC, he offered 100, I want at leats 120, currently doesn't run but if I get it running the price is gonna be 200, maybe a little steep for asian noped, but I need the dough for vespa/puch stuff. Might take trades if you really want it matt, its custom..wheelie bar, and different forks, looks a lot cooler than stock
