Spam
« on: September 04, 2008, 09:25:25 AM »

I delete the two posts from BestBikeEngine.com.  Reason being: I can't stand spammers.  I deal with them multiple times daily on this and other sites I run/work on.  They are detrimental to online communities, and only out to make a buck and raise their google rating.

Reasons for deleting their posts:
1 - It's spam
2 - The place most likely sells cheap chinese engines - I worked at Popcycle, I know what that means
3 - It is nothing to do with our group or St. Louis
4 - I actually responded to one post, then noticed they posted the same thing in more than one of our forums, which is lame and annoying, so then I deleted them both.

Anyways, I know some people do like the helper engines that go on bicycles and such, so I thought I'd post here saying why I deleted the posts from them, but still let you know about the site.

I'm still feeling out my position as moderator here, so yell at me if you don't think I should have deleted the posts.

While, the urge to smite is strong, I would propose, that what they are attempting is an advertisement for a product that is roughly in the same solar system as the general topic. But in that it is an "advertisement", compensation for the use of your board in the promotion of their product is due before such commercial activity is permitted. The compensation might be anything even a "donation" to your favorite charitable cause ;) but these matters should be negotiated to the satisfaction of the parties concerned.  -Bangers

I participate in a private Ford forum.  The co-admin made it such that no webcrawlers or other stuff can find it.  Good because the URL will not pop up for spammers.  Bad because it makes it such that the URL is a closely guarded secret, and as such, limits new membership and open discussion.  I am wondering what middle ground there might be...
