Maybe we do cannon ball run style race, you know start here, and end here. Whomever gets there first wins...checkpoints along the way....might be a fun IRE thing to do soon.

How far would every one racing be willing to travel to race for a weekend? would you guys come out to Kansas? colorado? If this gets going, I have a feeling that I would no longer attend very many rallies, unless rallies were the track event. How many races would there be in the season?

Hrmmmm.  I don't think I'd go crazy far to be honest.  And if I had to choose between rallies and races...I think rallies would win.

Am I off the team?  :(

I don't know, i don't think I'm on your team.  It comes down to having a loyal group of racers that would actually show up to race when it's race time, we wouldn't want 15 people to show up one race and then 2 the next.

Maybe we do cannon ball run style race, you know start here, and end here. Whomever gets there first wins...checkpoints along the way....might be a fun IRE thing to do soon.

Great idea, no GPS allowed.

GPS really isn't that great. That whole "have GPS and never be lost again" thing is total BS.

gps is good for checking your bike's speed and finding the nearest gas station while you're out. other than that.......i think the whole fun of riding is to try to get lost..ya know, side streets, mud mountain ha ha etc.etc. really, if somebody gets lost doing 30 mph with a gallon of gas, they might want to get checked for alzheimers

hall street drag race. adelaide to the park (past mud mountain) white spraypaint for start and finish lines. video camera for race in progress and close finishes. there are some empty (of traffic) roads across the river in columbia. like an idiot, i got talked into riding a ten speed in the MS150. well, i went over there for training on my Huffy, scored out of the trash, and started ridin. 26 miles and a sore ass later, (but, there was no traffic) i put the bike back in the trash where i found it. anyway, i peddled 3 hours with no traffic. do they have license laws over there? i know there is no helmet laws.

Drivers license, registration, plates, and insurance are all required for mopeds. It's a money vacuum. That colombia bluff road is great for no traffic though. How about a race across the Chain of Rocks bridge, all Escape from New York style.

If you're talking IL laws then you need really only have eye protection and insurance. If you're living in MO, then your laws apply there, but I wouldn't tempt IL cops, especially in Columbia (my folks have a house there.)

Hello Fellow Moped riders and racers.
I raced mopeds for 3 seasons: 2004-2006 at two different race tracks in the midwest and east.
http://www.kartlifters.com/  << Circleville, OH
http://www.beaverun.com/   << Beaverun, PA

It was totally awesome!!!

I may still be interested in racing a few more times if there is a race within 6 hours of Indianapolis, IN.
I am a member of the Bropeds in Bloomington, IN.

I met Mike last year at the Broped rally but he couldn't ride because he had a broken arm at the time.
I can't remember how he said he broke his arm but I remember it was a pretty wild story while on a moped.
My short term memory that weekend was skwed and screwed; too much partying.

Please post racing information on Moped Army if you find a track to race on nearby.

Here are some photos of racing mopeds at one of the races:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/arthurx/page8/

Dan of Kalamazoo's bike is there, Chris MopedWareHouse brought two mopeds to race, Josh Griffin(sp)?  had
the Van Halen guitar (red w/ white stripes) moped.

Talk to you all later,
Arthur X

Bunch of cool photos in there.

Whats up with the modified Jet?

And does drilling out the flywheel cover actually cool the system better, and help to keep water out, as opposed to just running without the cover?
